Solar fairy lights, 50 multicolour LEDs on 5 m, 8 modes

About this product

The string has 50 multicolour LEDs on 5 m (16.4 ft) of flexible wire, with a solar panel and a built-in 800 mAh rechargeable Ni-MH battery. The listing says 4 to 8 hours of charging gives 8 to 18 hours of light, and a photo sensor switches the lights on at dusk and off by day. The material is listed as plastic.

The eight modes are steady on, slow glow, combination, chasing, in waves, slow fade, sequential and twinkle, and the setting is remembered. The seller notes that the panel switch has to be on during the day, otherwise the lights will not charge. The listing gives an IP65 rating and outdoor use.

What to use it for

Five metres is enough for a shrub, a balcony rail or a few fence panels, and the solar panel does away with any cable to a socket.

Care and safety

Check that the panel switch is on before leaving the lights out for the day. Wipe the panel with a soft cloth so it can charge.
